Together with Friends of Kilconly Wetlands, Voices from the Bog brought an evening of celebration around our peatland heritage for Culture Night 2024.
This unique event explored the rich tapestry of our bog landscape: the myths and folklore it has inspired, the culture of peat-harvesting it supported, and the delicate ecosystem it nurtures.
Local people shared oral histories and traditions, while poetry readings explored the influence of the bog on Irish culture. Insights into wetland ecology were gained from Professor Mike Gormally of the University of Galway and local creativity discovered in an exhibition curated by artist Sarah Deane, featuring bog-inspired artwork and photographs from the community.
The evening culminated in a traditional Irish music session with local musicians.
Voices from the Bog - an unforgettable celebration of nature, history, and community spirit inspired by our local wetlands.
